{"id":107,"date":"2007-09-14T11:55:55","date_gmt":"2007-09-14T16:55:55","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.angelsdesk.com\/angel\/blog\/?p=107"},"modified":"2007-09-16T07:25:43","modified_gmt":"2007-09-16T12:25:43","slug":"romance-stories","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.angelsdesk.com\/?p=107","title":{"rendered":"Romance stories"},"content":{"rendered":"<p id=\"photo_h\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.angelsdesk.com\/photos\/2007\/09\/damian_water_03Sept2007.jpg\" \/><br \/>\nDamian <em>loves<\/em> water.<br \/>\nHe has loved water from the first moment we put him in his first bathie.<br \/>\n03 September 2007<\/p>\n<p>I am very picky about my romance stories.\u00c2\u00a0 That&#8217;s why, a looooong time ago when I was only a teenager, I decided to write romance stories; I could never find a decent romance because I don&#8217;t like the Harlequin-style romances nor the bodice rippers (apparently, that term is <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sfweekly.com\/2001-07-25\/news\/a-romance-glossary\/\">offensive in the romance market<\/a> now, but the official term is &#8220;historical single-title&#8221;; boy, is that a mouthful).<\/p>\n<p>Anyways, so I decided to write my <em>own<\/em> romances with characters <em>I<\/em> like and stories that <em>I<\/em> find interesting.\u00c2\u00a0 That proved to be\u00c2\u00a0much harder than I anticipated, but it has been an interesting and fun journey just the same.<\/p>\n<p>Recently, I watched Howl&#8217;s Moving Castle by the legendary and inimitable Hayao Miyazaki.\u00c2\u00a0 It was a <em>great<\/em> romance story.\u00c2\u00a0 So I&#8217;ve decided to make\u00c2\u00a0a recommend list of romance movies in case someone out there is in the mood for a good romance but can only find the\u00c2\u00a0formulaic, insipid\u00c2\u00a0romantic comedy <em>shite<\/em>\u00c2\u00a0that is churned out year after year by Hollywood.<\/p>\n<p>Some good romantic movies:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Howl%27s_Moving_Castle_%28film%29\">Howl&#8217;s Moving Castle<\/a>\n<ul>\n<li>Watch it in English.\u00c2\u00a0 It&#8217;s a very unusual story which makes it <em>very<\/em> difficult to follow while reading subtitles.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/You%27ve_Got_Mail\">You&#8217;ve Got Mail<\/a>\n<ul>\n<li>And, to answer the question that always comes up, No, I don&#8217;t like Sleepless in Seattle nearly as much.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Secretary_%28film%29\">The Secretary<\/a>\n<ul>\n<li><em>Big Warning:<\/em> This is a movie about a submissive and a dominant who find love even though they are considered deviant by accepted societal standards.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0There are explicit sex scenes, so if you don&#8217;t like movies\u00c2\u00a0that involve\u00c2\u00a0fringe sexual subculture or that have explicit sex scenes, do not watch this one.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Pride_and_Prejudice_%281995_TV_serial%29\">The BBC Pride and Prejudice miniseries<\/a>\n<ul>\n<li>No romance list would be complete without this one.\u00c2\u00a0 And though I also love Sense and Sensibility with Emma Thompson,\u00c2\u00a0that is more a story of love between two sisters. \u00c2\u00a0The men really are only supporting characters in that one.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>The first four episodes of <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/His_and_her_circumstances\">His and Her Circumstances<\/a>\n<ul>\n<li>The rest of the series is not nearly as heart-throbbing as the first four episodes, and the ending has no resolution &#8212; it is Hideaki Anno after all &#8212; so just stop after the first four episodes.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/The_Wedding_Singer\">The Wedding Singer<\/a>\n<ul>\n<li>I know many don&#8217;t think much of this movie, but I thoroughly enjoyed it.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>And, in honor of my romantic husband, <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/The_cutting_edge\">The Cutting Edge<\/a>\n<ul>\n<li>I saw this once a long time ago with Matt.\u00c2\u00a0 Matt loves this movie and regularly re-watches it. \u00c2\u00a0He has, apparently, loved this movie since he was a teenager, and his family tease him over it. \ud83d\ude42<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Well, that&#8217;s all I can think of now, but that&#8217;s a good list to start with. \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Damian loves water.
