This weekend, Matt finished making the sandbox for the children.

Pregnancy leaves one with many souvenirs: varicose veins, stretch marks, spontaneous incontinence while sneezing or coughing,\u00c2\u00a0and\u00c2\u00a0permanently rearranged internal organs.<\/p>\n

There is another little quirky thing that pregnancy transforms into a lasting condition: emotional weepiness.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0While pregnant, sentimental commercials can make you cry.\u00c2\u00a0 And though the emotional weepiness is not as acute afterwards, you are left with a permanent PMS-style sensitivity to sentimentality.<\/p>\n

For example, just recently I watched The Wedding Singer again and cried at the very end when Robbie was singing “I want to grow old with you” on the plane to Julia.\u00c2\u00a0 “Sure,” you remark, “I can see crying at the climactic, intentionally\u00c2\u00a0overly-sentimental\u00c2\u00a0scene of an adult romantic comedy.\u00c2\u00a0 I cried<\/em>.”<\/p>\n

Well, I see your Wedding Singer and raise you High School Musical.\u00c2\u00a0 I just watched High School Musical again, and got all choked up and weepy during the climactic scene when Troy and Gabriella race to the call-back audition and sing together.\u00c2\u00a0 Matt was in here and I knew it was silly to cry at a teen movie, so I was walking around, pretending to clear the table from lunch, trying to get the lump out of my throat.<\/p>\n

I, like so many other people, assumed Tammy Faye Bakker was\u00c2\u00a0being theatrical with all her crying.\u00c2\u00a0 But now, after giving birth to two children like Tammy Faye,\u00c2\u00a0I believe\u00c2\u00a0she was simply misunderstood.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
