{"id":71,"date":"2007-05-18T07:54:51","date_gmt":"2007-05-18T12:54:51","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.angelsdesk.com\/angel\/blog\/?p=71"},"modified":"2007-05-18T08:04:36","modified_gmt":"2007-05-18T13:04:36","slug":"ripples-into-the-world","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.angelsdesk.com\/?p=71","title":{"rendered":"Ripples into the world"},"content":{"rendered":"<p id=\"photo_v\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.angelsdesk.com\/photos\/2007\/05\/Damian_08May2007.jpg\" \/><br \/>\nDamian\u00c2\u00a0having fun\u00c2\u00a0developing\u00c2\u00a0his motor skills.<br \/>\n08 May 2007<\/p>\n<p>Something interesting and very pleasant happened this morning.\u00c2\u00a0 It was educational for me as well.<\/p>\n<p>Every morning I get up about an hour or so\u00c2\u00a0before the kids.\u00c2\u00a0 I check email and the weather, read the blogs of my friends and family,\u00c2\u00a0occasionally blog myself, make a cup of tea, and then swing outside on the back porch and listen to the birds greet the morning.\u00c2\u00a0 It&#8217;s a quiet and peaceful ritual that I enjoy very much.<\/p>\n<p>Well, today while I was reading my email, I received a reply from an email I had sent over a year ago.\u00c2\u00a0 I had gone to the <a href=\"http:\/\/uts.cc.utexas.edu\/~anime\/\">UT anime club<\/a> to pick something up, and while there, I didn&#8217;t say &#8220;hi&#8221; to Thai, the president of the anime club, even though I passed right by him.\u00c2\u00a0 This was my shyness hard at work.\u00c2\u00a0 Thai is a good guy and I&#8217;ve always liked him, but since we are just passing acquaintances, I was too shy to say anything.<\/p>\n<p>I felt terrible about that.\u00c2\u00a0 I felt rude and mean, so when I got home, I wrote him an email apologizing for being rude and explaining that it was just because I am quite shy.\u00c2\u00a0 I never heard anything back, so I assumed that Thai either didn&#8217;t remember me or just brushed over the email without concern.<\/p>\n<p>Well, he wrote back this morning, apologizing for being so very late with his reply.\u00c2\u00a0 He told me not to worry about it.\u00c2\u00a0 It was a lovely and kind email and made me happy.<\/p>\n<p>It also made me realize that we don&#8217;t know all the ripples we send out into the world.\u00c2\u00a0 When we say a kind word or apologize for something we did or do something nice for someone, we don&#8217;t always receive any kind of acknowledgement for our act.\u00c2\u00a0 That doesn&#8217;t mean that it wasn&#8217;t appreciated or that it didn&#8217;t make the\u00c2\u00a0person feel happy.\u00c2\u00a0 Just because Thai didn&#8217;t\u00c2\u00a0write back,\u00c2\u00a0that didn&#8217;t mean that he didn&#8217;t appreciate the apology and email.<\/p>\n<p>And when I realized this &#8212; when\u00c2\u00a0I realized that ripples I send out into the world can make people smile or feel a little less burdened in the day\u00c2\u00a0even though I&#8217;m unaware of it &#8212; it made me really happy.<\/p>\n<p>So here&#8217;s to kindness and shyness and all the\u00c2\u00a0happy ripples\u00c2\u00a0that you can create in this life.<\/p>\n<p>And thanks, Thai, for the lovely email and for the lovely lesson in life.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Damian\u00c2\u00a0having fun\u00c2\u00a0developing\u00c2\u00a0his motor skills. 08 May 2007 Something interesting and very pleasant happened this morning.\u00c2\u00a0 It was educational for me as well.
